Boots of the month January
Agraro's boots of the month January
The Hunter Argyll
The first wellington boot in 2023 takes us back to England. To the country of origin of the wellington boot. This time we face a rubber boot that was produced under different manufacturers. The Argyll was first produced by the NBR (North British Rubber Compagny). The target market for these wellies was initially workers and farmers who needed comfortable and durable wellies.
Later, when NBR was taken over by Uniroyal, the Uniroyal brand logo was added to the Argill name. In the 1980s, the Argyll Super Safety, Argyll Safety and Argyll Super models could even be personalised with the company logo on the side of the shaft.
In 1986 there was another change. Gates took over Uniroyal, and so the brand logo was adapted again, now adding the name Gates. The synthetic lining now provided more comfort and better hygiene.
As the owner of one such pair of Argylls, I can say that this is true. The wearing comfort is good. So it is absolutely no issue to wear the rubber boots for a longer period of time.
In 1990 and early 2000, there were further changes in the manufacturers of the Argyll wellington boots. Today they are again simply called Argyll and are based on the Bullseye. So the Argyll with the red trim on the top is another dying wellington boot. You can still get them today via the well-known internet platforms and maybe with a bit of luck in one or the other shoe shop or agricultural, gardening supply shop.
