Meeting 2023 Retrospective

I arrived at the chalet about half an hour late. This was due to the late arrival of the Italian participants' train from Italy in Bern. I apologize to the participants who had to wait for me.

After returning from Bulle station, where I had picked up another participant, the tables and benches were set up. I was delighted. The meeting could now begin. As always, there were a few new participants. I'm always delighted to see people taking part for the first time. Even if it's not always obvious, I'm always enthusiastic about welcoming people who are coming to the meeting for the first time. Well, I'm not a man of many words. One or two of you may have already noticed.

But despite everything, the most important people at the event are each and every participant, because without you, the party would be nothing. I'd like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your continued participation. Once again, some 25 participants were present.

Once again, the weather cooperated. The rather mild evening temperatures livened things up. At first, about two thirds of the guys went for a swim in the lake. Afterwards, we gathered around the barbecue, where all kinds of grilled meats were cooked. Then, as always, it's a magical moment when people come together. A moment when language barriers come down. Eating around a fire is a kind of ritual that has touched and united people for millions of years.

After lunch, the entertainment part really began. The empty stable still serves as darkroom. As usual, some people enjoyed themselves in front of the chalet, while others had fun behind them. In the end, everyone spent the evening to their own satisfaction. At least, that's what I hope. It should be true, because up to now, no one has ever complained about the meeting.

There is one exception. A few years ago, two participants from Paris sent me a two-page letter of complaint. The meeting had, most likely, failed to meet their high expectations. That letter makes me laugh today when I think about it.

Most participants were delighted with the meeting. Particularly this beautiful spot on the shores of Lac de la Gruyère. The majority of participants are delighted with the location.

The 2024 event is just around the corner. Here too, new participants will be enchanted by this venue. For it really is a magical place. How could it be otherwise, given that the Sentier des Légendes runs right by it. The wonderful world of elves and goblins, part of this part of the canton of Fribourg. So I hope to see you again next year there .
